ENTWICKLUNG

Despite a challenging market environment, the GRIMME Group from Damme was able to continue the good year of 2017 in 2018.

Despite a challenging market environment, the GRIMME Group from Damme was able to continue the good year of 2017 in 2018. Turnover in 2018 fell only slightly by 1.3 % to 453 million euros. GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik achieved 296 million euros, just short of the previous year's result of 301 million euros. Against the market trend, the US subsidiary SPUDNIK, with more than 18 %, and the specialist in plastics technology INTERNORM from Damme (Germany), with more than 15 %, were able to increase sales significantly. The manufacturer of web and conveying equipment RICON was able to maintain the high level of 2017. Due to the political environment and the pressure on producer prices, sales in some countries, such as Turkey, China, France and Belgium, have fallen, in some cases significantly. Under these circumstances, the Danish manufacturer for vegetable technology ASA-LIFT also suffered a decline in sales.

For the current business year, the family-owned company is expecting stable to slightly declining sales in potato and vegetable technology. Demand for beet harvesting technology fell substantially due to the significant decrease in sugar prices. Despite these difficult conditions, GRIMME succeeded in gaining market share in this highly competitive segment. Above all, the new generation of self-propelled beet harvesters, the REXOR Platinum series, was successfully launched on the market.

The difficult harvest situation due to weather conditions only permits a limited forecast for the year 2020. A further trend towards declining sales in beet technology and a slight decline in sales in potato and vegetable technology can be expected.

GRIMME has and will continue to invest extensively in product development, digital solutions and in all plants and subsidiaries to be prepared for future challenges.
